Breathing when running: Using the talk test 1. Breathe using your diaphragm or deep belly breathing. Deep belly breathing allows you to take in more air and prevents side stitches. 2. Breathe in through your mouth and out through your mouth. 3. Use the talk test: Run at a pace that you can breathe easily or talk using full sentences. You should not be gasping for air. Slow down or walk if you feel like you can not "catch your breath".
